Silja is a true ray of sunshine and greets everyone she meets with a cheerful nature. No matter where – in school, at home or on the field hockey pitch – Silja is always in a good mood. She wears a constant smile and continually motivates her teammates through this positivity.
Sadly, there are many challenges in life, which impact even the happiest and most generous people.
In April 2016, Silja was diagnosed with Leukemia. She spent the next five months in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Even in these long months, Silja never stopped being herself – she bravely battled this sickness so that she could be back with her team, playing field hockey, as soon as possible.
Silja is a very talented goalie and represents the Grossflottbeker THG Club in the first division German Hockey League. Her illness kept her away from this team in 2016, but she fought her way back to competition at the beginning of 2017. After a successful half-season and promising 2017/2018 pre-season, Silja remained positive and hopeful that her illness had been conquered. Unfortunately, however, at the beginning of September 2017, a year after she left the hospital, Silja’s cancer is back.
Even after receiving this terrible news, Silja is not backing down – she keeps fighting. This time, YOUR help is needed more than ever, as Silja needs a bone marrow donor, in order to beat cancer. She needs us to take action so that she can be back on the field hockey pitch, celebrating wins with her teammates, and pursuing the engineering degree that she aspires to complete.
